SECTION 1. Describe the types of procedures, settings, and patients that may require anesthesia outside the operating room setting.

A 43-year-old woman is scheduled to have a prolonged MRI scan (1–2 hours) for a spine evaluation. She is mildly obese and has a history of mild sleep apnea. She is also claustrophobic and has been intolerant of previous attempts at the MRI. You are called to assist in providing sedation/anesthesia for her.
